Department of Journalism and Social Communications

The Department of Journalism and Social Communications trains bachelors and masters in the educational programs “Journalism” and “Political Journalism”, specialty 061 “Journalism”. The first admission took place in 2001. Since that time, the department has already made many achievements: 

  • dozens of talented generations of graduates;
  • all-Ukrainian conferences of young scientists;
  • collective monographs of lecturers and professors (two of these works were done after the University moved from Donetsk to Vinnytsia);
  • hundreds of publications by lecturers and students;
  • second place in Ukraine among departments in the 2008 Ministry of Education and Science competition, sixth place in the all-Ukrainian rating of departments by “Media Detector” in 2016, already after moving to Vinnytsia;
  • creative laboratories, projects, programs, magazines, and newspapers;
  • Summer and spring media schools (in particular, international ones);
  • winners of all-Ukrainian Olympiads and scientific competitions prepared by the department.
The mission of the Department

is to train a professional in the field of communication, who would be capable of generating quality content for various platforms; a person integrated into modern society, ready to contribute to the development of democracy in Ukraine and around the world and to oppose hostile information operations using contemporary digital tools. 

The vision of the Department:
  • regional leader of education in the field of social communications;
  • national research center in the field of social communications;
  • a reliable and socially responsible partner for the mass media, civil society institutions, state bodies, educational and scientific institutions, people working in the field of social communications, forming the media and media education space in Ukraine and abroad;
  • worldview space with its corporate spirit, which provides opportunities for applicants and professionals in the field of social communications to live, work, study, and develop harmoniously according to the principles of academic freedom and integrity, professional dignity, and patriotism.
Strategic priorities
  1. Pragmatization of educational activities to ensure the quality of education, its student-oriented principles, and competitiveness.
  2. The Department as a leading educational and research space for the fulfillment of opportunities in the field of social communications.
  3. Creation of the Department’s worldview space as a living-learning community.
